Australia does have state welfare.... So I'm not exactly sure what is being said here. Search for "Centrelink" as that is the umbrella Gov department that covers all the social welfare responsibilities of the state.

Hey Steve - Thanks. I feel your pain.

I'm sure you know, but given your age, the sorts of things you're worrying about are incredibly unlikely. Colon cancer, for example - unless you've got first degree relatives who have contracted the illness at a young age, you're not getting it when you're thirty. It just doesn't happen.

Same with salivary gland cancer (that's one I've worried about - not without some reason: I ended up being order for an ultrasound). It's an old person's illness.

Brain tumors - well, the very dangerous ones are incredibly aggressive. If you're still alive a few weeks after you first notice your symptoms, and you've not got any worse, then you're in the clear.

But hey, I know how you feel. It's one thing knowing all this rationally. It's another thing believing it in the bones.

I realize this article was posted a couple years ago, but I had to tell you how much I appreciated reading it.
I too seem to jump from one set of symptoms to another. It started in my mid twenties, and since getting married and having 2 children, it has only gotten worse. I give my self anxiety attacks by constantly thinking I have various types of cancers or other deadly diseases. The only thing that seems to make me forget about one illness, is when I notice new symptoms and jump to another illness. I just turned 30 and in the past 5 years I have been tested "multiple times" for; Lymphoma, Leukemia, Brain Tumors, ALS, Testicular Cancer, Skin Cancer, Retinal Cancer, Thyroid Cancer, Saliva Gland Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, Colon Cancer, Stomach Cancer, Throat Cancer, Diabetes, and I'm sure I forgot a few.
Tonight is no different. I've had a sore throat and fever over the weekend, and I seem to have lost about 4 pounds since last week. I'm currently trying to rule out any type of lymphoma or leukemia and keep telling myself that "its just a typical head cold and sore throat, nothing to get worked up about" I'm still worried but your article has helped put things in perspective.

Thank you.

I just had a look at J.C.'s post. I wish he'd take a course in evolution. History and evolution of religious ideas. History and evolution of religions.

But on reflection he really is grumpy defending Kant so he'd probably be grumpy with me too and accuse me of not understanding Berg. and misrepresenting him and accuse me of insensitivity. But Bergemann isn't celebrated for a reason, he's wrong, he's muddled not clear, and he didn't meditate on this thesis for 12 years so there is nothing to compensate for his stumbing, repetitive rambling, and inability to articulate clearly and concisely... Have Kant's translaters really been that bad?

Steph:

That's right. It's the pretending that they aren't trying to be funny or that they don't know that they are funny that is funny, among other things. It's a you know that I know that you know that I know....game.

He's not really too bad tempered. Just immensely and justifiably frustrated! I empathise ... I feel his pain, the strain. Thank goodness I haven't tried Kant untranslated. But I have got very bad tempered with German historians of religions who need a whole page or more for one sentence. These sentences are generally punctuated by only ONE comma!! And what they expressed was absolute rubbish and completely flawed. (eg Thomas Bergemann on "Q" - and that was published in 1993 and hasn't been successful enough to be translated!)

And I reckon Jerry C has ESP. When I read his blogs on religion (infrequently) he seems to know exactly what Christians believe and even what theologians are and aren't thinking when they write.
